John W. Lahr, OD, FAAO
Dr. John Lahr received his Doctor of Optometry degree from the Indiana University School of Optometry and was the founder of The Eye Clinics, a five-office primary eye care group practice in East Central Minnesota. In 1984, Dr. Lahr integrated his practices with ophthalmology, began providing his patients with co-managed care and developed care models with several ophthalmologists. He was an original member of the Clinical Practice Guidelines Committee of AOA to develop practice standards and protocols for the profession and served as Coding Chair for the Eye Care Benefit Center. Dr. Lahr served as AOA’s first representative to the American Medical Association’s CPT coding committee. He is a Past President of the Minnesota Optometric Association and was the MOA Optometrist of the Year in 1989.
Over the past 13 years, Dr. Lahr has served the optical and ophthalmic surgical product industry as a consultant in the areas of product development, surgeon training and providing clinical education to ophthalmologists and optometrists. He is a frequent lecturer nationally and internationally on the topics of coding and billing, ocular surface disease, advanced microsurgical techniques, nutritional treatment and practice/operations management. Dr. Lahr currently has appointments to the medical advisory boards of Advanced Medical Optics, Allergan, Oasis Medical and Biosyntrx and serves as the Divisional Vice-President of Provider Relations/Medical Director for EyeMed Vision Care.
